Sticker printer FAQ: paper, waterproofing, kiss-cuts and your own images
Short, sourced answers about Cricut StickerPix, Liene PixCut S1 and Canon SELPHY CP1500: which paper each brand supports, water resistance, cutting and printing your own images. Where no source says, we say it is unknown.

Can I use third-party sticker paper in a Cricut StickerPix?
Cricut sells its Print + Cut refill set as “Compatible with Cricut StickerPix Print + Cut only” (Cricut shop), and BTTR lists the materials as “Cricut StickerPix Print + Cut sticker sheets and photo paper only” (BTTR). We found no Cricut statement about third-party paper, and we haven’t tried it.
Can I use third-party paper in the Liene PixCut S1?
No, according to Liene: “The PixCut S1 is designed to work exclusively with official Liene sticker and photo paper, and does not support third-party materials.” Liene adds that third-party vinyl or generic sticker sheets “are not supported and may damage the machine” (Liene materials guide).
Can I use third-party paper or labels in a Canon SELPHY CP1500?
Canon says to “use genuine Canon Color Ink / Paper Sets”, and that ink and paper for the SELPHY ES series, SELPHY SQUARE QX10 or IVY are not compatible. Card-size label sets also need the PCC-CP400 card-size cassette, sold separately (Canon U.S.A. support).
Can I use Liene paper in a Cricut StickerPix, or Cricut paper in a PixCut S1?
Neither is supported according to the two brands: Cricut’s refills are for the StickerPix Print + Cut only (Cricut shop), and Liene supports only official Liene paper (Liene materials guide). We haven’t tried either combination.
Do the two Cricut StickerPix models share supplies?
No. Cricut says “Neither materials nor ink cartridges for the Cricut StickerPix machines are cross-compatible” (Cricut blog).
Durability
Are the stickers waterproof?
Cricut describes its laminated StickerPix sticker sheets as “fade-, water- and scratch-resistant” (Cricut shop) — water-resistant (Cricut shop (US)), not described as waterproof. Liene says its papers give “waterproof, fade-resistant results” (Liene materials guide); that is Liene’s claim. Canon says prints from its KP-108IN photo set are instantly dry, smudge free and water resistant (Canon U.S.A. shop (KP-108IN)). We haven’t checked any of these ourselves.
Cutting
What is the difference between a kiss-cut and a die-cut?
A kiss-cut cuts through the sticker but not the backing, so stickers stay on the sheet until you peel them (Kerri Crafts It). A die-cut goes through the backing too, leaving separate loose stickers.
Which of these printers cut stickers?
The Cricut StickerPix Print + Cut has a built-in cutter and kiss-cuts only (Cricut shop (US); Cricut blog). The Liene PixCut S1 kiss-cuts around the design after laminating (Liene blog). The StickerPix Print has no cutter and uses pre-cut sheets (Kerri Crafts It). Canon’s specifications for the SELPHY CP1500 list no cutter (Canon spec sheet).
What is the printable area?
Liene publishes a sticker printing size of 3.9 × 6.7 in (100 × 170 mm) on its 4 × 7 in paper (Liene tech specs). Cricut has not published a printable area for StickerPix sticker sheets, so it is unknown; our sheet maker assumes a 0.15 in margin on every side.
Does Cricut Design Space cut each sticker separately on a combined 4×7 PNG?
Unknown. Cricut hasn’t documented it for uploaded combined images, and we haven’t tested it yet. Cricut’s help says overlapping stickers made on the Design Space canvas are cut separately unless merged (Cricut Help Center), but that covers canvas elements, not a single uploaded PNG.
Your own images
Can I print my own images?
Yes. Cricut Design Space accepts JPG, PNG, BMP, GIF and HEIC images and SVG and DXF vectors (Cricut Help Center); the Liene app accepts JPEG, PNG and HEIC (Liene tech specs). Transparent PNGs work best for shaped stickers. Step by step: how to upload your own designs.
What file size should a 4×7 sheet be?
A 4 × 7 in sheet at 300 DPI is 1200 × 2100 pixels (1 in = 300 px). Whether Design Space auto-resizes a 1200 × 2100 px upload is unknown, so check it shows as 4 × 7 in on the canvas. Our 4×7 sheet maker exports exactly this size.
Does Design Space need a subscription?
An internet connection is required (Cricut shop (US)) (Cricut doesn’t publish an account requirement on its StickerPix pages). Cricut says the “Full content library & certain software features require paid Cricut Access subscription” (Cricut shop), and BTTR says the AI design features need Access (BTTR). Exactly which sticker features need Access is unknown.
Troubleshooting
My sticker printer jams, shows an error light or won’t connect. What should I do?
