Why look for a PixCut S1 alternative?
The PixCut S1 prints and kiss-cuts 4 × 7 in sticker sheets from $279.99 (Liene product page; Liene blog), and its refills work out to about $0.60 per sheet (our calculation: $42.99 ÷ 72) (Liene shop). A few published limits are common reasons to look elsewhere:
- No Windows app. The Liene app is for iOS and Android, and Windows is not supported (Liene tech specs).
- Where it ships. Liene’s shipping policy lists only Germany, France, Italy and the lower 48 US states (Liene shipping policy).
- Liene paper only. Liene says the PixCut S1 works “exclusively with official Liene sticker and photo paper” (Liene materials guide).
- Sheet size. Designs must fit a 3.9 × 6.7 in printable area on a 4 × 7 in sheet (Liene tech specs).
Each alternative in more detail
Cricut StickerPix Print + Cut
The only other all-in-one sticker printer and cutter here. Like the PixCut S1 it is a 300 DPI dye-sublimation printer for 4 × 7 in sticker sheets (Cricut shop (US); Liene tech specs), and Cricut says StickerPix machines “can only make kiss-cut custom stickers” (Cricut blog). It costs more: $299 for the Essential Bundle (Cricut shop (US)) and about $0.67 per sheet in refills (our calculation: $47.99 ÷ 72) (Cricut shop (US) refill). In return you get Design Space on a Windows or Mac computer as well as a phone (Cricut shop (US)). Cricut hasn’t published a printable area for StickerPix. Cricut StickerPix Print (no cutter)
At $169 it is the lowest machine price on this page (Cricut shop (US)), but it can’t cut your own shapes: it prints onto pre-cut sheets (Cricut comparison) with six circles, five rectangles or six squares each (Cricut Help Center). A pre-cut refill of 54 sheets with one ink cartridge is $32.99 (Cricut shop (US) refill), about $0.61 per sheet (our calculation: $32.99 ÷ 54). It uses Wi-Fi, and Design Space needs an internet connection (Cricut shop (US)). More: StickerPix Print vs Print + Cut.
Canon SELPHY CP1500 (no cutter)
A compact 300 dpi dye-sublimation photo printer; Canon’s specifications list no cutter (Canon spec sheet). Its sticker media are card-size label sheets: one full-size label, eight small labels or a square label per sheet (Canon manual), and these sets need the PCC-CP400 card-size cassette, sold separately (Canon U.S.A. support). KC-18IF full-page labels are “as low as” $14.99 for 18 (Canon U.S.A. shop (KC-18IF)), about $0.83 per sheet (our calculation: $14.99 ÷ 18). Best Buy lists it at $179.00 (Best Buy). Inkjet printer + Cricut Print Then Cut
You print on your own colour printer (Cricut recommends inkjet) and a Cricut Joy Xtra, Explore, Maker or Venture scans the printed sensor marks and cuts around the design (Cricut Help Center). The sheets are much bigger, with a cut area of up to 9.94 × 7.44 in on Letter (Cricut Help Center). A Cricut Joy Xtra is $179 (Cricut shop (US)), and Cricut’s waterproof sticker set is $15.99 for 20 Letter sheets with laminate (Cricut shop (US)): about $0.80 per sheet (our calculation: $15.99 ÷ 20) before ink, which isn’t published.
